RAIN, THE THREAT OF TSUNAMI, BUT GOOD FOOD!

Photos from the Wellington Xiamen Association Annual BBQ

Sunday 13th saw 65 members, friends and invited guests of WXA gather for our annual BBQ at the Victoria Bowling Club. Unfortunately "Bowls" were missing, www.rmclone.com due to saturated greens and the light rain falling, but conversation, drinks and nibbles and the skillful playing of the erhu by Mr Huang Xingang, kept everyone occupied.

We were honoured to have special guests Ms Yuan Yuan who is the Head of the Culture Section of the Chinese Embassy of the Peoples' Republic of China; Mayor Celia Wade-Brown; Deputy Director Ms Xiaoqing Yang and colleagues from the Wellington Confucius Institute; representatives from MFAT; and officers from Sister Cities NZ and NZ China Friendship Society.

After a Welcome and an update on Association news, including a video of the recent WXA Citizens' Trip to Xiamen, we were addressed by Celia, who thanked all for the efforts made on behalf of Wellington, and how she values this 27 year-old relationship with Xiamen.

The afternoon provides an informal venue for linking a wide variety of people all of whom have some interest in Xiamen, and a great opportunity to renew acquaintances and enjoy each other's company.
